DARIUS CIUTA and CHRIS WHITEHEAD are two of the really interesting artists today in the line of field recording-based composition, each one in their own personal way: Ciuta rather meticulous with the process and concept behind the work, Whitehead more concerned with matter and ways to explore its acoustic and emotional properties. Impulsive Habitat in a curatorial exercise commissioned the two artists to conceive an idea and develop it through sound composition: the result is “Ch – da ( d – 2 )” a release based on untreated recordings captured and edited following a very careful method that seems complex enough to require a book to be fully explained. On “Ch – da ( d – 2 )” the collaborative effort paid off as it clearly doesn’t sound like either CIUTA or WHITEHEAD solo works while instead presents a contemplative character that emotionally welcomes the listener to inhabit the piece.
